It’s pouring outside. Sometimes I love the fresh scent of a rainfall, complete with the thrills of thunder and lightening. I rather have a massive thunderstorm than just a drizzly day because all the excitement and novelty of the weather is in the display of it’s power.
Despite the rainy weather, I am still holding strong to the next time the weather will permit roof laying in the warm sun. By spreading myself across shingles affirms my desire to create a human heat rock. You know, like the one’s you buy for your pet iguana or whatever reptile you are containing in your home. But then someone pointed out that this creation was called the “electric blanket”. I’m still rooting for the heat rock, even thought the electric blanket is obviously the better invention.
Aside from this random posting of weather and technological innovations, the past couple weeks have been their own type of storm. This proved true in the previous week where I mapped out the hurdles on a piece of paper on my desk. As each day passed I would joyfully cross off an item or regretfully move the next assignment to the next day, which already had a full list to start with.
Graduation takes place next Saturday. I’m not one to weep at such events or mourn the passing of such good days because I see the great things to come too. Plus, the excitement and surrelism of speaking at commencement has blown my socks off. Instead of the day passing by with ease, I’ve begun to wonder what to wear, when to do my nails, and rehearse my speech a billion times.
It’s beginning to settle that the good days of the Potter’s House are coming to a close. It’s one thing to remain at the house for the month of May but it’s a very different thing when the people are in and out everyday, you can count on dinner with you friends, or stopping by to say hi to someone. Much of that changes after move out, which will take place fairly soon.
I made a similar observation about McLane this past weekend. This abandoned Ames store appears so very massive and empty during the week. Most of the areas remain dark, the parking lot spacious, and the traffic to a minimum. However, on the weekend the places comes to life in the most amazing way. From the experience I’ve had working in the building through the week has shown me how beautiful the building looks on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings. The crowds and noise and movement are a testament to what the church is – the people.
Speaking of the internship, this marks my last week at JNU (Joel Natalie University) as I finished my final intern requirements, including a 10+ page paper, weekly journal entries, portfolio of example work, cd portfolio, all that good stuff. The entire week was mostly consumed by the pressure to complete the project to drop off in the faculty supervisor’s mailbox this morning. Woot for that baby being born. That’s a big thing on the list to be scratched off.
Another thing being scratched off the list is coming from the list of goals. Tomorrow morning I will be running my fourth 5K (my first since I was a junior in high school). It’s been a goal of mine for a long time and since spring has been a great running season for me, I bit the bullet and signed up for Law Day 5K with the Erie Runner’s Club. I’m be scampering around 5th and 6th street with a bunch of other tennis shoe savy folks. The run is a benefit for children in homeless shelters, which is pretty sweet.
This will mark the end of the random update. What are you up to? I’ve said too much. It’s your turn.
You make my day. I was just getting grouchy and not wanting to continue my massive paper writing efforts, but now I think I can plug along a little bit longer. Though I may find a retreat to your room to type and chat and talk out an idea or two.
You’re right, the house just isn’t the same when people aren’t here, but I’ll still be around to liven up the place every now and again, though I won’t have the same excuses.
